Chance the Rapper proclaimed "Music Is All We Got." With the recent election of Donald Trump and the possible loss of several rights was Chance right? Regarding racial justice, hip hop and youth activism what should we do? This year's event features an afternoon smyposium for youth and youth workers regarding the issues facing teens. Bring your pressing questions for this lively discussion with local scholars, community activists and teens. 


Audience members can both text and raise questions for the panel throughout the symposium.

Youth BNIPS is a two round competion featuring talented slam poets between the ages of 13-19. Poets from across WNY compete for cash prizes. Want to compete? Bring your hottest two poems to compete alongside some of the best poets WNY and Canada has to offer!Poems are limited to three minutes and ten seconds. YouthBNIPS audience attracts viewers of all ages. So remember, no swearing, no obscenity, and no vulgarity! You're an excellent poet, anyway. So we're certain you have plenty of other words in your poetic arsenal. Lets hear those hyperboles, metaphors, and similes.

Poets must also participate in an orientation just prior to the slam. In it you'll have all of your questions answered regarding the slam format. You'll also have a chance to familiarize yourself with the space.

Elmwood Franklin is a premier independent preschool to eighth-grade school located in the city of Buffalo. The Johnston Theatre is a professional grade state-of-the-art performance space that seats 475 people. Which means this event...IS A PRETTY BIG DEAL! Plus, we're expecting youth from Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Canada. 

Cash prizes will be awarded onstage at the announcement of the winners. Prizes are as follows:

1st Prize: $250
2nd Prize: $150
3rd Prize: $75
